I get so many requests from other instructors about an eBook that was more widely accessible than the iBooks (which are limited to iPad, iPhone, and Macs with OS Mavericks or later) that I built "creating universally accessible books" in as part of my sabbatical project.
Unfortunately, my prospects from a year ago fell through, and I seem to have been hitting road blocks all month!
Unfortunately, my prospects from a year ago fell through, and I seem to have been hitting road blocks all month!
- First the company I was in contact with decided not to develop a "Phase 3" (guess who was part of Phase 3? You got it...), and I have been unable to get them to get back to me.
- I actually got really excited when I discovered that as of a couple of months ago, iBooks Author now has ePUB3 templates, because I have been using iBA so heavily and LOVE it, but it has been a big disappointment - the formatting is awful, and looks even works when using a web-based ePUB3 reader on the completed ebook.
- BUT THE GOOD NEWS - I tried http://avatist.com, and I think I may actually be onto something! It's definitely not a perfect solution (mostly because I want users to have the ability to use the book offline, and this is a web-based solution), but it does have nice formatting, my videos and slideshows work, I can manipulate the formatting a little and still get a nice, clean, professional look. I hope you'll help me out by taking a look at the first book and telling me what you think: https://mjmfoodie.atavist.com/macroeconomics-section1
