Types of PollEverywhere Polls:
Multiple Choice
Multiple choice polls are useful in so many ways, including (but not limited to):
Clickable Image
The clickable image poll requires web-based, rather than text message, polling. While this makes it more natural for online work, PollEverywhere does have its own app that students can download to their phones which allows them to join a "session" in the face-to-face environment. With the app, students are able to respond in the synchronous environment as the instructor presents the questions.
Among other things, the clickable image poll is good for:
|
Open-Ended
The open-ended response question makes PollEverywhere head and shoulders above other quizzing/polling tools out there, not least of which is because the students responses can be presented as a mosaic of responses, or in "ticker" style, or as a word cloud. Uses include (but are not limited to):
NEW! Competition
NEW IN FALL 2018: Gaming in the classroom is gaining popularity, with tools like Kahoot!, Triventy, and QuizIzz; now PollEverywhere has joined the field! The presenter creates a "Competition," comprised of a series of questions (any type or combination of types within the PE environment) created by the presenter.
Competitions are designed to be used in the synchronous environment, with students participating via the app on their devices. Like other gaming tools, participants get points for speed and accuracy, and see their progress after each question as they show up on the Leaderboard.
PollEverywhere has had the capability to present groupings of questions for some time now, but the Competition feature introduces the gaming element for increased student engagement.

SAMPLE: Integrating PollEverywhere into a Lesson
On the left, you see screenshots of the poll questions before any students respond; on the right, you can see screenshots of each poll with student responses. For the purposes of illustrating to you the possible ways to present the results, I have varied the selection to show "Cluster," "Wall," and "Word Cloud" formats.
